This cheeseboard and knife are made in London using materials and methods that value longevity, utility and quiet beauty.
The Cheeseboard
Each board is crafted from London plane, a hardwood synonymous with the capital itself. Planted extensively across London since the 17th century, plane trees were chosen for their resilience and character. The timber develops a dense, fine grain with subtle movement, making it both durable and visually distinctive.
Every board is cut, shaped and finished by hand. Natural edges, knots and variations in grain are preserved rather than removed, meaning no two boards are ever the same. Small differences in colour, contour and marking are not imperfections but the record of the tree and the maker’s hand.
The board is finished to be food-safe and practical, designed for regular use rather than display alone.
The Knife
The cheese knife is made using Sheffield stainless steel, continuing a tradition that has defined British cutlery for generations. The blade is balanced, sharp and designed specifically for cheese, with a shape that allows clean cutting and easy serving.
Each handle, crafted from London plane, is individually finished, so subtle variations in tone and grain are part of its character. As with the board, no two knives are identical.
Craft and Origin
Both the board and knife are hand made by craftspeople in London, produced in small batches rather than mass manufacture. This allows attention to detail, material selection and finishing that simply isn’t possible at scale.
Together, they are intended to be objects you use often, care for lightly, and keep for many years.
A Note on Variation
Because these pieces are made from natural materials and finished by hand, each set will differ slightly from the next. Grain patterns, markings and tone will vary. This is a feature of the product, ensuring that no one else will ever have the same cheeseboard & knife.
